May
Lord Hanuman shower his blessings on you. Happy Hanuman Jayanti
Hanuman Jayanti is the
celebration of the auspicious appearance day of Sri Hanuman, an ardent devotee
and eternal servitor of Lord Sri Ramachandra.
Srimad Bhagavatam testifies that Hanuman still lives in
Kimpurusha varsha, and constantly glorifies Sri Rama by chanting the following
mantras:
There is no difference between Lord Ramachandra and Lord
Narayana. But Hanuman wanted to serve only Sri Ramachandra and he did not
accept the supreme benediction of eternal life in Vaikuntha loka. He decided to
stay back in the earthly planet and glorify Lord Rama. He did not want anything
that would diminish his relationship as the servant of Lord Ramachandra.

bhavan prabhur aham dasa iti yatra vilupyate
You are my master and I am your servant. I do not even want
liberation from this material existence as long as this relationship is not
disturbed.
Hanuman – The Epitome of Devotion
The devotion of Hanuman is unparalleled and he has set the
standards for serving the Lord. Srila Prabhupada cited many instances from the
life of Hanuman to explain how a devotee should serve the Lord. Here we present
a few important lessons we learn from the devotion of Sri Hanuman.
Ravana, the king of Lanka, kidnapped Sita Devi. Hanuman went to
Lanka and found Sita devi. He also fought with Ravana so that Rama and Sita
could be united again. Srila Prabhupada explains: Sita means Lakshmi, the goddess
of wealth and she belongs to Lord Ramachandra. The policy of Ravana was to take
away Sita from Rama. Similarly, the materialistic people are trying to enjoy
the property of the Supreme Lord. But Hanuman’s policy was to take Sita from
Ravana and get her seated by the side of Rama. So it is the policy of the
devotees to convince the materialistic people to engage their wealth in the
service of the Lord.
After locating Sita devi in the Ashoka forest in Lanka, Hanuman
conveyed the message of Lord Ramachandra to Sita devi. He wanted to teach a
lesson to Ravana and warn him of the consequences if he did not return Sita to
Rama. Hanuman expressed his anger by setting fire to the city of Lanka. Srila
Prabhupada quotes this instance to explain to us how a devotee can use
even negative emotions like anger in the service of the Lord.
During the war between the armies of Rama and Ravana, Lakshmana
was attacked by Indrajit, the son of Ravana. Lakshmana was injured and the
medicine required for treating him was available only on the Himalayan
Mountains. Hanuman took up the responsibility of bringing the medicine. But
when he reached the mountain, he could not identify the right medicinal herb.
So he picked up the whole mountain and carried it to Lanka. Srila Prabhupada tells
us that a devotee should take all kinds of risk to serve the Supreme Lord.

on different days. In some places (especially in Maharashtra) it is observed on
Chaitra Purnima. In Tamilnadu and Kerala, it is celebrated in the month of
Margazhi (December – January). As per the Odiya calendar it is celebrated on
the first day of Vaishaka month. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh it is
celebrated on Vaishaka Krishna Dashami, the 10th day of waning moon in the
